Normalized entropy: A comparison with traditional techniques in variable selection

چکیده
A variable selection procedure in regression analysis using a normalized entropy measure was firstly proposed 1996, by Amos Golan, George Judge and Douglas Miller, the book Maximum Entropy Econometrics – Robust Estimation with Limited Data. To best of authors’ knowledge, idea has not been explored literature since then, despite many noteworthy advantages that have pointed out Golan coauthors, such as: it is simple to perform, even for large number variables (useful some big data problems); allows use non-sample information (easily incorporated optimization structure); can be implemented ill-posed models (frequently observed real-world problems). Following recent work illustrates how represent promising approach identify pure noise models, this paper revises entropy, proposes improvements, its performance when compared well-known traditional techniques problems.

A Comparison of Variable Selection Techniques for Credit Scoring
Selecting new and more predictive variables is fundamental for scorecards to perform well. This study makes use of a very large set of credit scoring data and investigates the application of several variable selection techniques for scorecard development. Among the four different techniques used, stepwise regression, which is currently the most popular technique used in practice, was found to p...
متن کاملA Practical Approach to Variable Selection — A Comparison of Various Techniques
____________________________________________________________________________________________ Abstract: Selecting a useful list of variables for consideration in a predictive model is a critical step in the modeling process and can result in better models. Sifting through and selecting from a long list of candidate variables can be onerous and ineffective, particularly with the increasingly wide...

In the specification of linear regression models it is common to indicate a list of candidate variables from which a subset enters the model with nonzero coefficients. This paper interprets this specification as a mixed continuous-discrete prior distribution for coefficient values. It then utilizes a Gibbs sampler to construct posterior moments. It is shown how this method can incorporate sign ...
متن کاملa comparison of teachers and supervisors, with respect to teacher efficacy and reflection
supervisors play an undeniable role in training teachers, before starting their professional experience by preparing them, at the initial years of their teaching by checking their work within the proper framework, and later on during their teaching by assessing their progress. but surprisingly, exploring their attributes, professional demands, and qualifications has remained a neglected theme i...
